What is radon?

Radon is a odorless, tasteless and colorless gas produced by the decay of uranium and radium.

Why should I be concerned about radon?

Radon exposure can cause lung cancer. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is estimated to cause many thousands of deaths each year. The Surgeon General says that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Cancer deaths caused by radon are second only to deaths caused by smoking. The combination of radon in your home and smoking can be especially deadly.

Can radon be present in my home or business?
Yes. Radon can be present in any building regardless of its’ location. It may be a problem in your home.

Should I test my home for radon?
Yes. The Florida Department of Health recommends taking radon measurements in every building and on every floor, stand alone or high rise, every five years.
